14-Week Course for Middle School Students
This introductory course gives middle school students a solid foundation in Public Forum debate. Over 14 weeks, students will learn how to research topics, build arguments with evidence, and work with a partner to present their ideas persuasively.
Students will explore the basic structure of Public Forum debate, including how to write a case, respond to opponents, and ask strategic questions during crossfire. The course introduces the Claim-Warrant-Impact framework and teaches students how to find and use credible sources to support their arguments.
This course emphasizes growth in public speaking confidence, logical reasoning, and teamwork. Students will practice organizing their thoughts, listening critically, and expressing their ideas clearly under time constraints.
By the end of the course, students will participate in practice debates and be prepared to continue into more advanced middle school or introductory high school debate programs.
