A structured introduction to oratory and debate designed for elementary school students interested in argumentation and public speaking.

CDA has smoothed out my transition between local competition and debate at the national level with generous considerations regarding my family’s financial situation. From the weekly lectures to the tight-knit labs, the tailored education at CDA has helped me hone my technical debate skills and become a better speaker.
Elementary Intro is the first step into public speaking and debate for younger students. Over ten weeks, students explore how to make clear claims, give reasons and examples, and listen carefully to others’ ideas. Lessons are interactive and engaging, relying on games, short speaking activities, and discussions on everyday topics that matter to kids. The class is designed to build confidence and enjoyment while introducing essential public speaking habits like eye contact, voice projection, and respectful listening. Students finish the course with stronger communication skills and a readiness to explore more structured argumentation in future classes.
