A structured introduction to debate designed for middle school students interested in argumentation and public speaking.

CDA has helped me grow a lot as a debater. The coaches and the class schedule are great for enhancing prep and in-round strategy as a debater. I would recommend this club if you want to join a good environment and become a better debater.
10-Week Course for Middle School Students
This introductory course gives middle school students a solid foundation in Public Forum debate. Over ten weeks, students will learn how to research topics, build arguments with evidence, and work with a partner to present their ideas persuasively.
Students will explore the basic structure of Public Forum debate, including how to write a case, respond to opponents, and ask strategic questions during crossfire. The course introduces the Claim-Warrant-Impact framework and teaches students how to find and use credible sources to support their arguments.
This course emphasizes growth in public speaking confidence, logical reasoning, and teamwork. Students will practice organizing their thoughts, listening critically, and expressing their ideas clearly under time constraints.
By the end of the course, students will participate in practice debates and be prepared to continue into more advanced middle school or introductory high school debate programs.

Zach began his debate career in 2012 at Kuna High School, specializing in Public Forum. After four successful years on the high school circuit—including multiple appearances at Idaho’s state Public Forum tournament—he joined Boise State University’s national championship team, the Talkin’ Broncos. During his four years at BSU, he won multiple tournaments in both Public Forum and IPDA, including the 2019 Gorlok Gala and the 2019 Steve Hunt Classic.
Zach believes that winning rounds begins in the classroom, long before tournaments ever start. By practicing communication and research skills in an academic setting, students build the foundation necessary to respond effectively to any argument in-round while also becoming well-rounded, informed citizens. He is excited to join the Civic Debate Academy team and hopes to provide students with the same transformative debate experience he was fortunate to have.

Civic Debate Academy makes high-quality debate coaching affordable for all. With flexible pricing, financial aid, and scholarships, no student is held back by cost. We're here to ensure everyone can excel in debate, without breaking the bank. If you want to join the program, cost won't be the reason you don't.
