CDA has helped me grow a lot as a debater. The coaches and the class schedule are great for enhancing prep and in-round strategy as a debater. I would recommend this club if you want to join a good environment and become a better debater.

This course is designed for elementary students who are ready to take their speaking skills to the next level. Over 14 weeks, students will build on their foundational debate skills and step into the world of SPAR debate — learning how to argue both sides of an issue, craft evidence-driven speeches, and think strategically about how they organize and deliver their ideas.
Students will learn how to develop multi-part arguments that include claims, reasoning, and specific evidence. Through guided argument writing, structured rebuttal drills, and in-class debates on topics relevant to young people today — such as school policies, technology, and fairness — students will practice anticipating and responding to counterarguments with logic and clarity. They will also be introduced to rhetorical devices like rhetorical questions and parallel structure to strengthen their persuasive impact.
This course builds on critical thinking, public speaking, and active listening by challenging students to adapt their argumentation strategies to new topics across social, academic, and civic contexts. Students will take on leadership roles in group work and discussion, learn to argue both sides of an issue with confidence, and begin reflecting on the role of argument in influencing change within their school, home, and community.
By the end of the course, students will be comfortable competing in SPAR debates and constructing persuasive, well-organized speeches. They will leave with stronger reasoning skills, a deeper understanding of how to engage with complex topics, and the confidence to continue growing in more advanced debate programs.
