CDA has helped me grow a lot as a debater. The coaches and the class schedule are great for enhancing prep and in-round strategy as a debater. I would recommend this club if you want to join a good environment and become a better debater.

Introduction to Public Forum Debate — Middle School

‍14-Week Course for Middle School Students

Course Overview‍

This introductory course gives middle school students a solid foundation in Public Forum debate. Over 14 weeks, students will learn how to research topics, build arguments with evidence, work with a partner to present their ideas persuasively, and develop the ability to respond to new arguments.

What Students Will Learn‍

Students will explore the basic structure of Public Forum debate, including how to write a case, respond to opponents, and ask strategic questions during crossfire. The course introduces the Claim-Warrant-Impact framework and teaches students how to find and use credible sources to support their arguments.

Skills Developed‍

This course emphasizes growth in public speaking confidence, logical reasoning, and teamwork. Students will practice organizing their thoughts, listening critically, and expressing their ideas clearly under time constraints.

Course Outcome‍

By the end of the course, students will participate in practice debates and be prepared to continue into more advanced programs.
