Alysia McClung

Academy Class Coach | Johns Hopkins

Alysia brings extensive competitive debate and coaching experience to the debate community. She competed in Policy Debate throughout high school on the Washington State circuit and continued competing at collegiate tournaments. During her junior and senior years, she was ranked among the top Policy debate teams in Washington State.

After high school, Alysia coached debate for high school programs throughout Washington State. After moving to Texas, she continued supporting developing debate programs at both the middle school and high school levels, helping students build strong foundational skills and grow as confident competitors.

Alysia holds two bachelor's degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy. She also holds a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University.

Alysia is excited to continue coaching debate because she believes debate provides students with valuable tools to develop critical thinking, communicate effectively, evaluate competing perspectives, and engage thoughtfully with complex ideas. She especially enjoys helping students develop their own voices, build confidence, and learn how to thoughtfully challenge and defend ideas. For Alysia, coaching is about more than competitive success—it is about equipping students with skills that will serve them in college, their careers, and beyond.
