
Julia Maas began her debate career in high school, where she quickly developed a passion for argumentation, public speaking, and competitive success. She continued debating at the collegiate level with the Boise State “Talkin’ Broncos,” competing in formats including IPDA, Public Forum, and multiple speech events. During her time on the team, she contributed to a nationally competitive program, achieving several first-place finishes across debate events.
In addition to competing, Julia served as Team President for two years, where she led practices, mentored novice debaters, and helped foster a collaborative and high-achieving team environment. Through this leadership role, she developed a strong foundation in coaching and supporting students at all levels of experience.Julia’s coaching style emphasizes critical thinking, adaptability, and strong communication. She focuses on clear argumentation, strategic thinking, and confident delivery, while helping students learn how to tailor their arguments and adapt their strategy within rounds.
She believes that the most successful debaters are those who can combine technical skill with effective and flexible communication.She is excited to continue coaching because of the lasting impact debate can have on students’ confidence, critical thinking, and ability to advocate for themselves. Julia is passionate about helping students grow not only as competitors, but as thoughtful communicators, advocates, and leaders.
