Camp Curriculum

Technical Foundations

Days 1–2 focus on foundational PF skills: the role of each speech, flowing, crossfire, refutation, argument comparison and weighing, and adapting to different judges. Lectures include active recall checks so coaches can diagnose and correct issues in real time.

  • Speech roles & round structure
  • Flowing & crossfire fundamentals
  • Refutation & argument weighing
  • Judge adaptation strategies
Case Writing

By Day 3, students begin researching the PF topic and formulating arguments. After watching a demo debate from Varsity-level students, labs work together to build constructive and rebuttal cases with guided coaching.

  • Topic research & source evaluation
  • Constructive & rebuttal case building
  • Guided lab work with coach feedback
  • Demo rounds from Varsity/PFBC students
In-Round Mechanics

Days 4–7 are built around practice debates with targeted instruction after each round. Students put lectures into action, with emphasis on foundational execution over winning at all costs. Additional lectures introduce more advanced PF concepts to bridge the gap to Varsity.

  • Guided practice rounds with feedback
  • Foundational skills over win-at-all-costs
  • Advanced PF concepts for level progression
  • Speech redos to put feedback into immediate practice
Execution & Delivery

Days 8–10 are a competitive tournament where students apply everything they've learned. Low stakes, high support — staff guide the environment so the focus stays on skill development and academically sound, ethical practices.

  • Multi-round modified PF tournament
  • Heavy educator guidance throughout
  • Evidence packet to take home for competition season
  • Individualized feedback after every round

Why Choose at CDA

Experience the CDA Standard

Low Student-to-Staff Ratios

Not 30. Not 20. Our labs are small by design so every student gets coach time, feedback time, and round time daily. Staff step in during practice to guide, not just observe.

Educators, Not Just Competitors

Our curriculum is built by classroom teachers and nationally recognized coaches with results at NSDA Nationals, TOC, and state championships across every region of PF since 2016. They teach — not just lecture.

Camp Tournament Built In

Every camp ends with a multi-round tournament in a low-stakes, high-support environment. Staff guide the experience so the focus stays on skill development and ethical competitive practices.

Evidence Packet to Take Home

Students leave with guided research and a full packet of evidence on the September/October competition topic — ready to use in their first tournament of the season.
