Kate Liu currently attends UC Berkeley, and is studying Economics, Data Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies. During her two years on the national circuit, she championed the Glenbrooks, Florida Blue Key (2024), Sunvite, and the Texas State Tournament (TFA). She’s placed second at Harvard, third at Florida Blue Key (2023) and the Longhorn Classic (UT), fourth at the Texas State Tournament (TFA), fifth at the Extemp TOC, 8th and 13th at NSDA, and competed at the Montgomery Bell Academy Round Robin (a round robin for top 16 Extemper’s in the nation) twice. Now, she competes in British Parliamentary Debate at Berkeley, at tournaments like the United States Universities Debating Championships.She’s worked as the Executive Director and Podcast host of the Extemper’s Bible, a nonprofit organization to provide free extemporaneous resources to competitors globally. As a coach, Kate is as a believer in breaking the mold. She’s taught workshops for her nonprofit organization Lifting All Women, and speech classes for Be The Light, a debate nonprofit organization. Her experience as a TEDx speaker has shaped her coaching style: allowing students to find their voices. She’s excited to continue this mission, by coaching for the Civic Debate Academy this year.
